PARAÑAQUE SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL HISTORY

Prompted by the success of the Parañaque Municipal High School (PMHS) students in the 1988 Regional Science Fair, the former Mayor Walfrido N. Ferrer, together with his sister, Mrs. Flor Cordero realized the significance of establishing a Science High School – a school that would cater to academically-gifted students of Parañaque to Science, Engineering and Technology courses.

With consultation with the Pasay City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ricardo Sibug, Division Science Supervisor Mr. Lino Rom, together with principal Mrs. Rosa V. Sioson, Assistant Principal Miss Narcissa F. Catindig, and its Department Heads: Mrs. Alicia De Leon (Mathematics), Mrs. Teresita Flores (English) and Mrs. Elizabeth C. Cabales (Science), a deliberation at PMHS library to craft the framework was made.

Thereafter, Dr. Gloria G. Salandanan of the Philippine Normal University was consulted about the curriculum and other relative policies of a Science High School. In 1990, PSHS was established with its forty (40) highly selected students. They began reaping awards in different academic and literary competitions; thus, building milestone for the academe.

In 1994, during the time of Mayor Dr. Pablo R. Olivarez, a Municipal Ordinance No. 94-31 Series of 1994, entitled “Authorizing The Creation And Operation of Parañaque Science High School” was enacted. The proponents of the said ordinance were City Councilors, Manuel T. De Guia, Abundio B. Ferrer, Lorna L. Campano, Abe M. King Jr. and Amadeo R. Bobadilla. Since then, the school had continued its operations under the supervision of Mrs. Rosa V. Sioson, who also supervised PMHS until August 2002, where she was succeeded by Ms. Estrella Aseron and Mr. Urbano Agustin in 2006. In this span of time, some Department Heads, in succession, were designated officer-in-charge for PSHS. Mrs. Elizabeth C. Cabales in 2003, Mrs. Alicia De Leon in 2004, Mrs. Leonora J. Nofuente in 2005, Mrs. Zolaida Bonacua in 2006, Mr. Bienvinido Cubebe in January 2007, and Engr. Pablito S. Vibal in August 2007.

In January 2009, PSHS (PNHS-Annex) has been granted its official seal as an independent school by the Department of Education. Hence the school name Parañaque Science High School.

In May 2011, the local government of Parañaque, through the effort of former Mayor Florencio M. Bernabe Jr. bought a property in Barangay Sto. Niño to house PSHS. The Principal of PNHS-Main, Mr. Urbano E. Agustin, deployed some of his teachers of engineer to mend the needs for teachers of Engr. Pablito S. VIbal who was then the official Principal of this school. In the same year, Mrs. Ma. Cristina R. Villarreal and Ms. Emma R. Cunanan were promoted as Department Heads for Science and Mathematics respectively.

On August 1, 2013, Dr. Concepcion C. Bernaldez was assigned as the new principal. With her vision to establish a culture of excellence, she had motivated its students and teachers to perform higher; thus, they ranked first in the 2013 and 2014 National Achievement Test consecutively.

In November 2015, Dr. Emma R. Cunanan was promoted as the Division Supervisor in Mathematics; hence, Mrs. Zenaida N. Regodon replaced her as the new Mathematics Department Head.

In March 2016, PSHS finally transferred to its new 4-storey, 24-classroom building donated by PAGCOR in Dahlia St., Barangay Sto. Niño Parañaque City. On the first week of December 2018 Dr. Concepcion C. Bernaldez bid farewell as the school head. She retired serving the education sector with pride and joy.

On January 2018, the Education Supervisor from SGOD of DepEd Parañaque, Ms. Thelma F. Montiel acted as the officer-in-charge. While waiting for the new school head of ParSci, Ms. Montiel served the school community with all her best efforts.

On July 29, 2019, Mrs. Marilou A. De Jesus, Principal III from Masville National high school was designated as the new School Head. She was a former Science teacher in ParSci and is now welcomed back to serve entire school community as its able and supportive leader. Since then, PSHS continued to live its creed.

Soar High, ParSci!
