PARAÑAQUE SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL HISTORY

Parañaque Science High School (ParSci) was conceived in 1988 by the late Mayor Walfrido Ferrer and his sister Mrs. Flor Cordero. It was envisioned to provide free quality secondary education to the exceptionally bright elementary graduates of Paranaque. Its specially enriched curriculum in Science, Mathematics and English. It supports courses in Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics. Their vision was referred to the principal of Paranaque Municipal High School, Mrs. Rosa V. Sioson, with other school administrators: Miss Narcisa F. Catindig, Assistant Principal and Department Head of Mathematics;

Mrs. Teresita Flores, Department Head of English; and Mrs. Elizabeth C. Cabales, Department Head of Science. This was approved by the Division Superintendent, Dr. Ricardo Sibug and the OIC Science Supervisor, Mr. Lino Rom, who signified their support to the notion. Their collaboration marked the birth of PSHS in 1990. With twenty-one (21) students housed in a borrowed classroom of PMHS, and teachers supervised by the PMHS administrators, PSHS has proven its exceptionality. Under the administration of former Mayor Olivarez, the municipal ordinance 94-31 s. 1994, Authorizing the Creation and Operation of Paranaque Science High School” was signed by the council on February 1, 1994; thus, the Parañaque Science High School. This was housed in a building adjacent to the main building of PMHS. After a year, the staff of this school attempted to apply for naturalization but this was disapproved due to the policy “no school within the school”.

In 2011, Former Mayor Florencio M. Bernabe Jr. purchased a property in Barangay Sto. Nino where a two-storey building with twenty-one classrooms was constructed and was officially donated to Parañaque Science High School on April 5. In May 2011, the whole staff of PSHS, headed by the principal Mr. Pablito S. Vibal, occupied this building.

On August 1, 2013, another academic leader was installed as the new principal of PSHS- Dr. Concepcion C. Bernaldez. She envisions greater stature that would make PSHS maintain its academic reputation and excellence not only as premiere science high school in the city of Parañaque but also in the national arena.

In March 2016, ParSci finally transferred to a new building donated by PAGCOR. It consists of 4 floors and 24 rooms which house the offices, laboratories and more classrooms than before. Because of this, the school is now able to cater more students. In the first week of December 2018, Dr. Bernaldez bid ParSci farewell as the school head. She retired serving the education sector with pride and joy.

In January 2019, an education program supervisor from the SGOD of DepEd Paranaque, Ms. Thelma F. Montiel, acted as the officer-in-charge. While waiting for the new school head of ParSci, Ms. Montiel served the school community with all her best efforts.

On July 29, 2019, Mrs. Marilou A. De Jesus, Principal III from Masville National High School was designated as the new school head. She was a former Science teacher of ParSci and she was welcomed back to now serve the entire school community as its able and supportive leader.

In September 2022, Mr. Ruel A. Grafil, Master Teacher I from Paranaque National High School-Main was designated as the next school head. He was a former AP teacher. Up to the present, he is serving as a very dedicated, righteous and passionate Principal I of the school.

In July 2024, Dr. Espino was designated as the new principal of Parañaque Science High School, where she previously served as a math teacher. With a strong commitment to student success and innovative teaching methods, she brings valuable experience from her tenure as principal of La Huerta High School. Dr. Espino’s leadership style is characterized by collaboration, inclusivity, and a focus on academic excellence.
